It's finally here,
the build-up to world's biggest military airshow
is once in full swing as aircraft start arriving.
It's clearly still too early for most with a very
quiet day of arrivals. First to touch down was the
Lockheed EC-130H Hercules from USAF Air Combat
Command quickly followed by the Boeing B-52H
Stratofortress which got stuck in a queue waiting
for cones to be moving...sweet revenge for 2002!!
Highlights for today were the arrival of the Northrop
Grumman E-2C Hawkeye from the French Navy and
the pair of Boeing/IAI F-4E Phantom 2020s from
the Turkish Air Force. Also of note were the French
Navy's Dassault Atlantique 2 and the Curtiss
Jenny from Vic Norman's collection at Rencombe.
Also noted arriving
were Supermarine Swift F5 G-SWIF and
a unidentified helicopter on the backs of low loaders
for the 100 Years of Flight Experience.
The heat today was
absolutely horrendous, touching 35C according to
my car's outside temperature gauge, with 44C inside!
A BIG thanks to the RAF guys looking after the Western
Park and View area for bringing round water supplies
for the slightly cooked onlookers!! The quiet
day today clearly means things will hot up as the
week progresses.
